"Be dilligent and your future will be bright." That's an advice we often especially when we are talking about success. What that advice means to you? In my humble opinition, that can be elaborated as follow. If someone wants to be succesful, s/he needs to be dilligent. Wanting to be rich? S/he need to be dilligent too. Dreaming about being famous? They have to be dilligent too. Shortly, dilligence is the key to open the opportunity. If it is success that you want, it is dilligence that you have to have in advance.

You may then ask a question such as "What dilligence do to us that we need it so much in our pursuit of success?" Well, to answer that tricky question let's first discuss what dilligence mean. In Wikipedia, dilligence is defined as zealous and careful nature in one's actions and work, exemplified by a decisive work ethic, budgeting of one's time, monitoring one's own activities to guard against laziness, and putting forth full concentration in one's work. Meanwhile, according to referencedotcom, dilligence is constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind.

Referring to the definition cited from to online sources above, it can be seen that dilligence is the power that promote one's body and mind to always do whatever it takes in order to accomplish something. Therefore, by having dilligence, one can be rich, if she/he wants to be rich. And he/she can be famous, if she/he wants it. With dilligence, nothing can hinder their way. There is no obstacle that they cannot overcome.

It is clear now why we have to be dilligent in order to pursure success. It is needed basically to guide us to get to our destination or goal. There is no shortcut to success. We need to learn, study, and work hard. And that can be done if we have grown in ourselves a character called "dilligent."

So, from now on, set your 'default' mind to 'Dilligent'. Good luck for everything you wish for..

In the previous article, I have explained quite clearly about causes which make our learning seems useless. Just as a remainder, let me state the cause once more here. Our learning becomes not so meaningful because we don't to it effectively and efficiently. We just learn, we just exercise, we just read, and so on and so on without considering whether what we learn is useful or not. Therefore, no matter how much time we have spent to learn something, it seems that there is no result for what we have done. It's because we do not learn effectively and efficiently.

So how can we learn effectively and efficiently?

Alright, based on our discussion of effectiveness and efficiency in the previous article, we have known that effectiveness is the level to which what we inted is accomplished no matter how much energy and cost it needs. Efficiency, on the other hand, completes the term effectiveness in that to accomplish our goal using the minimum cost or energy. In practice, we can make our learning more effective and efficient if we know what is the goal of our learning. Confused? Alright, let me explain this as follow:

In school while we are facing examination, for example, we have two choices: 1) reading all materials our teachers have taught us, or 2) reading only materials which predicted to be included in the exam. While both choices probably will give us similar result if done correctly, I prefer the second because I can save some of our energy and time while, at the same time, the result of our examination will not lower. I call the first as studying vocariously while the second studying effectively and efficiently.

Perhaps you have a question like how can our prediction is correct. Well, in term of school examination I will not recommend you 'just' predict. It is easy to have 100% correct prediction. How? By asking your teacher. Of course your teachers will not answer if you ask for the answer of the examination. But, if you ask for the outline or the curriculum of the subject matter or the lesson they are teaching, they will give you the answer.

Well, the above applies in the school examination. How about the learning in the general? Well, the keyword here is we have to have the goal of our learning. Whatever you are learning, whatever you are reading, you must have the answer if sometime someone ask you "what for you read that?" "Why do you study that?" If you have had the answer, then automatically your learning will be effective and efficient.

However, what interested me so much is the site in which I found some quotes about success written by several prominent figures. One of the quote which catched my eyes was one written by Henry Truman. Here it is the quote:

"I found that the men and women who got to the top were those who did the jobs they had in hand, with everything they had of energy and enthusiasm and hard work."

If you notice carefully, you will see that the quote is not relevant at all to the keyword and hence the information I searched. In fact, it's the opposite of what I googled. Then how come it interested me so much?

Well, in the first place it made me think that I search the wrong information. Yes, it made me think and realize that there is no fast less fastes way to achieve success. It is possible to get rich instantly. It's not impossible to be famous just in days. But it is impossible to be successful quickly. No way. The true success can only be achieved through a long long process. You may be rich, but you are not neccessarily successful. You may be famous, but it's not a sign that you are successful. In a few words, success is the matter of process not result.

The second interesting thing from the quote by Henry Truman above is the phrase "jobs they had in hand." It means a lot to me since this is what I think is rarely present to most people today. Mostly, people who are pursuing success leave the jobs they have and try to find another job which they think will give better and more money. And if in fact they cannot reach what they dream, they are back to their previous jobs. And then, they call theirselves fail.

In fact, following Henry Truman's, what we need to do to achieve success is just do whatever job we have in hand seriously and enthusiastically. That way, we can be experts in our field. And finally, in one or another way, our expertise will lead us to the success we are dreaming.

Do you ever feel like you have learned a lot but all you have learned seem useless? If you answer yes, don't be disappointed. There are many people out there who feel the same. They have read a lot, exercised so many times, and done whatever it takes but they feel that their brain is still empty. Exactly similar to what you feel, right? So, what's wrong with your and their learning?

Well, actually nothing is wrong. You and they have done the correct thing namely learning or excercising. The only thing which is probably not so right is the effectiveness and efficiency of your learning. So what and how is effective and efficient learning? Well, continue reading this article to know the answer.

Something is said to be effective if it accomplishes what it is intended to accomplish. If your plumb is leaked, for example, and you want to fix it, the your fixing effort is said to be effective when the leakage is gone no matter how much money or resource or energy you spend. As long as the leakage is successfully fixed, then you have done the fixing effectively.

Unfortunately, effectiveness alone is not enough. You need another thing namely efficiency. Since, just like what have been described above, to do some thing effectively sometimes results in wasting of energy, money, or resources. And I believe you don't want to do that. That is why you need efficiency in everything you do. So what is efficiency? Here it is.

Something is said to be efficient if it takes the minimum resources to gain the most result. Related to the plumb leakage case above, the fixing effort is said to be efficient if it takes the minimum cost, energy, or resources but with highest success of leakage fixing. Therefore, replacing the whole old pipe with the new one is not the most efficient effort even though this may result in success in leakage fixing. Perhaps, the most efficient effort would be to cover the leaked pipe with glue.

Well, without looking at your exact answer, I can guess what you have in mind when I asked the question. It must something like this "I want to be a successful person" or "I want to be rich" or "I want to be happy" and so and so. Am I right?

Maybe you wonder how I can guess such answer. What I underlie my guess on? Since you ask me that question let me now answer your question.

It's not difficult to guess what your answer is. In fact, everytime I ask such question to almost all friends of mine, by applying the same rule, namely to answer spontaneously, their answers are almost similar. Even though some give weird answer like "I want to go away" or "I want nothing", most of them give the answer just like yours. Yes, they want to be successful and several variety of the success. You know the words "rich" "prosperous" "famous" "happy" I include into variety of "success." So what's wrong with 'success'? Of course, there's nothing wrong. Everthing is right. It's natural for you all to want success. In fact, it's weird if you want the opposite namely to be failed person.

Moreover, wanting to be successful is actually the very first step to pursue the success itself. It means that it's the very fundamental requirement in your pursuit of success. Without having such goal in mind it will be impossible for you to finally achieve success.

So, from now on, grow the passion of success in you, and the success is just some steps in front of you.
